![]() Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Martin Luther King, Jr had a dream of a better America; one way to fulfill that dream is to volunteer in your community. The website Volunteer Match gives you an opportunity to see how you can assist and help fulfill the dream. The American Friends Service Committee will host a walking tour beginning at 9:00 a.m., meet at the Sojourner Truth statue (intersection of Pine and Park Streets) in Florence. Steve Strimer who will lead a walk by homes of Sojourner Truth, Basil Dorsey, and David Ruggles. At 11 a.m. at the Edwards Church in Northampton there will be workshops for all ages, hosted by local organizations like OutNow, Jobs with Justice and Community Action. From 1 p.m.-3p.m. The celebration titled "Preserving Civil Rights" will take place at the Edwards Church with special speakers and more. |
Greenfield Community College will host an event beginning at 1 p.m. in the Sloan Theater with special speaker Baily W. Jackson, III. Open to all. |
